Algiers, the place to be !

Alger la blanche, et son peuple chaleureux, accueillent les 9èmes Jeux Africains et la 2ème édition des
Jeux Afro-Asiatiques. Des rendez-vous de la jeunesse d'Afrique autour du sport, des rencontres, des échanges,
de la fraternité et des valeurs Olympiques qui contribuent à l'unité de notre continent. Et à la paix.
Ces Jeux continentaux, ceux de l'Afrique majeure, vont permettre de découvrir de nombreux talents sportifs
dont certains jeunes auront participé aux premiers Jeux de l'ACNOA organisés en 2006 aux quatre coins du continent.
L'an prochain, nous retrouverons beaucoup d'entre eux à Pékin, où nos athlètes devront porter haut les couleurs
de notre Afrique Olympique.
Ensemble, faisons de ces Jeux un succès et unissons nos efforts pour réussir le renouveau tant attendu du sport africain.
Au nom du Mouvement Sportif et Olympique Africain, je tiens à remercier l'Algérie et son peuple. Toute ma gratitude
va également à Son Excellence Monsieur Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Président de la République, qui accueille fièrement,
ici à Alger, toute la jeunesse d'Afrique et la convie fraternellement à partager le 45ème anniversaire de
l'Indépendance du pays et à vivre la Journée de la Jeunesse Algérienne.
Algiers, the capital city of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and its friendly inhabitants are
playing host to the 9th All Africa Games and the 2nd Afro-Asian Games. Two major sports events bringing together
the youth of Africa to intermingle, exchange experiences, and compare notes build bonds of brotherhood around
Olympic values that not only foster unity on the continent of Mother Africa but also Peace.
These continental Games staged by a mature Africa would serve as breeding ground for the identification of young
talents some of who would have participated in the maiden ANOCA Games organised in 2006 across the continent.
It is our fervent hope that some would shine at the Beijing Olympic Games next year where we expect our athletes
to take Olympic Africa to loftier heights.
Together, let us make the Algiers Games a success story. Together, let us turn over the long awaited new leaf of
African Sport.
Lastly, let me avail myself of this opportunity to extend on behalf of the African Olympic and Sport Fraternity
our heartfelt thanks and profound gratitude to Algeria, its Government and People and special acknowledgement
